Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What's a pledge drive?
This is the time of year when we ask Chalice congregants to affirm your support of Chalice with an annual pledge commitment. If you are new to pledging, you can read more about this practice on our minister's personal blog. (What's a "Friend?" A Chalice Friend is someone who is not a member but still makes a pledge commitment.)

Although donations of any size are welcome any time, our annual pledge drive provides the commitments we need to plan for the coming fiscal year. If we had to rely on spontaneous, surprise donations, we would be unable to staff and fund the congregation. Annual pledges paid in regular installments enable us to pay all of our monthly expenses.

Do I need to be a Member to pledge?
Chalice has many financial supporters who are not Members. When you make a pledge but are not a Member, you become a Chalice Friend.

What is Chalice’s fiscal year?

Chalice’s fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.

When is the pledge drive, and what is it for?

The pledge drive runs now through April 26. It is for the upcoming fiscal year: July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. During this time, you are asked to make your financial pledge for that next year.

I make a pledge and then I pay a pledge?
When we ask you to “make a pledge,” we are asking you how much money you intend to donate to Chalice in the fiscal year.

After you “make a pledge,” then we expect you to “pay your pledge.” We send quarterly statements to remind you of the amount you pledged to donate, and let you know how much you have donated so far this fiscal year.

When you have made a pledge commitment, it is important that you make your donation in a way that allows us to know that the donation came from you. Text donations meant as pledge payments should be written with the word pledge, e.g., “$100 pledge.”
